Research

Both New Zealand and International research shows that students make significant gains.

New Zealand research shows remarkable student progress, that student learning is retained and transfers to the classroom.  The AsTTle team reports that students make up to 2.5 times the progress that their team considers to be significant, with great progress for Maori, Pasifika and boys.

Schools also report that SuccessMaker levels have a high positive correlation with AsTTle and Probe levels.  Some examples of research and independent testing for rigour are below:  see also Feedback from Schools

"SuccessMaker has been designed to equip the classroom teacher with an instructional aide that is expert, affordable and educationally effective."

Sacred Heart Girls' College, Hamilton

"After having nearly 150 girls through the programme up to this point, progress has ranged from 3 months to 22 months.  After a 5-7 week course on SuccessMaker, the average progress has been 10 months.  As this seemed exceptionally high, I randomly selected 15 Y9 students and 15 Y10 students and re-tested them in September on the P.A.T. Reading Comprehension to find out if there was any correlation between their progress on SuccessMaker and their P.A.T. results.

The idea was, of course, to see a substantial improvement in their P.A.T.s since February.

The results seemed to confirm this.  It has been obvious to me, that the girls not only progress academically, but for many of them progress is particularly noticeable in their self confidence and their renewed enthusiasm for learning.

Records of every student's progress have been kept and analysed.  The results have surpassed all expectations.  Progress in reading and reading comprehension has been particularly impressive."

"When students were asked if they thought being on SuccessMaker had helped them, 100% answered Yes."

Dr Judy M. Parr - April 1994 (Ministry Research on SuccessMaker in NZ)

"In terms of progress on the system, students, on average, made gains consistent with, or in excess of, claims for the system, namely one month for every hour of instruction time. For example, for third form the average gain (in year levels) in maths was 0.111 and in reading 0.313 for every hour on system. The progress made on the system (class gains ranged from 0.93 to 1.43 year levels) could be seen as accelerated."
